The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine:
The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences:
Michelle Boyd
About Michelles's Research & Interests:
I currently work on the 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development within the Institute for Applied Research in Youth Development. This is a longitudinal study designed to provide information about the key characteristics of positive youth development through exploration of youth’s community contributions, risk and problem behaviors, internal strengths and ecological (family, school, community) resources. My primary research interest is media usage and accessibility, particularly educational media. Secondly, I am interested in academic achievement and ethnic identity development.

Daniel Lief Eckstrom
About Daniel's Research & Interests:
I’m concerned with the historical development of Western lyrical poetry. More particularly, my research aims to document how Melville and Whitman contributed to and challenged what was then a still-developing Romantic
understanding of the lyric. From this study, I eventually hope to sketch Melville’s and Whitman’s working theories of the lyric as it plays out in their Civil War poetry.

Wentao Fan
About Wentao's Research & Interests:
Wentao is a first year graduate student in mathematics. His interests are in functional analysis, abstract algebra and their related application problems. He is also extending his study in Geometry and topology. He think the Tufts mathematics department has provided very good courses and research programs for the graduate student development.

Alexander (Sasha) Keyel
About Sasha's Research & Interests:
I am studying habitat needs of grassland-nesting birds. Specifically, I am testing hypotheses as to why many grassland species are area sensitive - that is why they are absent or at lower density in small habitat patches relative to large ones. I am investigating whether there are differences in vegetation or food abundance between large and small patches, as well as investigating several behavioral mechanisms for this apparent preference for larger fields.
The School of Engineering:
Charles Banos
About Charles' Research & Interests:
I am interested in using stem cells to engineer tissues such as tendons and ligaments. In order to accomplish this, I first plan on examining the development of tendons and ligaments with hope that this investigation will provide a better understanding of the mechanisms necessary to regenerate these tissues. Once these crucial factors are understood they can then be applied to regenerate the tissues using a designed tissue engineering system.
The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy:
Kimberly Howe
About Kimberly's Research & Interests:
At Fletcher, I am hoping to build on my previous career as psychotherapist who specialized in treating survivors of conflict related trauma. I am currently studying forced migration, human security and international negotiation/ conflict resolution. My main research interest centers on post-conflict peacebuilding and development, particularly in Sub Saharan Africa (with a burgeoning interest in South America!).
Elke Jahns
About Elke's Research & Interests:
I am specializing in the fields of human security and development economics, and am particularly interested in rural poverty and resilience in Central America and East Africa. I hope to increase our understanding of how poor rural households cope with and recover from shocks such as illness, political unrest, or natural disasters.
Courtney Richardson
About Courtney's Research & Interests:
Courtney Richardson is a PhD candidate in International Relations at the Fletcher School, Tufts University. Her dissertation explores theoretical ties among international image and target audiences, as a means to understand variance in Chinese peacekeeping practice. Courtney completed her BSc (Hons) in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science and her MA in Security Policy Studies at the Elliott School of International Affairs, George Washington University. She is also a graduate of the Middlebury Chinese Summer Language School, where she was a Katherine Davis Fellow.
The Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Science:

Talya Davis-Johnson
About Talya's Research & Interests:
I am interested in microbial pathogenesis. Specifically, I am interested in the mechanisms by which bacteria infect mammals and adapt to the host environment.
